Background History

Point Pleasant, West Virginia is a location most associated with a legendary creature known as the Mothman.   This
creature was said to terrorize the area from 1966 to 1967 with numerous sightings reported.   Descriptions varied
from a flying man to a very large bird or insect.   It is widely believed that the Mothman was connected to the
collapse of the Silver Bridge inn December of 1967 that killed 46 people.   Various theories on the Mothman
range from UFO activity to a curse placed on the land Shanwee Indian Chief Cornstalk when he was
murdered in 1777.
