Fall River, Massachusetts

Background History

The Lizzie Borden House located in Fall River, Massachuetts was the scene of the greatest, unsolved murder cases in American
history.   On the morning of August 4th, 1892 Andrew Borden and his wife Abby were brutally murdered with an axe in their
Fall River home.   Suspicion immediately focused on their 32 year old daughter Lizzie who was eventually charged with the
murders.   She would spend ten months in jail awaiting trial before she was acquitted of all charges.   Despite some
circumstantial evidence that pointed towards Lizzie, the jury took less than an hour to deliberate and reach their
verdict.   There are many theories as to who may have murdered Andrew and Abby and why.   Did Lizzie murder
her father and step mother and if so, why?   Or was it someone else who had an issue to settle with Mr. Borden?
